Hetton Lyons Lake

Highlight • Rest Area

Hetton Lyons Country Park is a pretty park centred around a water sports lake.

It has a cafe based in the Springboard Adventure centre.

It was once the site of a coal mine, operating for almost 130 years. The colliery closed in 1950.

Pittington Way Railway Path

Highlight (Segment) • Cycleway

Pittington Way Railway Path. Fast, flat, interesting narrow railway path / double track. A good leg tester. Watch for lots of glass under the bridge at the Eastern end of the track

Coxhoe Village

Highlight • Historical Site

there are a number of off road cycle paths but they do tend to end abruptly and you are on roads - don't be put off. Coxhoe village is a typical old Durham pit village, although the coal mines have a all gone now.
