Dalby Forest Visitor Centre and Bike Hire

Highlight • Cafe

Dalby Forest is situated on the southern slopes of the North York Moors National Park. The southern part of the forest is divided by a number of valleys creating a 'Rigg and Dale' landscape whilst to the north the forest sits on the upland plateau.

You'll find green, blue, red and black-rated trails here, so something for everyone. Plus there's 13 walking trails, four running trails, and two play areas.

This is also the hub where you'll find the cafe and bike hire.

Dalby Forest mountain bike trails

Highlight • MTB Park

Dalby is great for a longer ride on a trail centre red. Not as technical as other UK reds but still provides a challenge. If you start at dixons hollow there is a good opportunity to warm up on some of the other trails. The only disadvantage to this is you will need to do some climbing towards the end of the ride. Majority of people start down at the visitor centre, so this is a good alternative when busy.

Dalby Bike Barn

Highlight • Rest Area

Dalby Bike Barn is an all-things-bike centre right here at the heart of Dalby Forest. You can rent bikes here to then go on the many trails in the area, and also get expert bike advice and get your bike repaired. The shop also does guided rides and skills courses.

Pickering Castle

Highlight • Historical Site

There has been a castle here on the hill top at Pickering since the Norman times as a motte and bailey castle. Over time it has been developed and the ruins you now see were used for royal holidays and hunting trips.

The castle is open to the public and is run by English Heritage. See their website for further details english-heritage.org.uk/visit/places/pickering-castle

Dalby Forest Visitor Centre

Highlight • Viewpoint

This is the usual place where people go when they choose to do their Dalby Forest adventures! There is a car park here, a café, tourist information, trail maps, a bike hire place and much more. This area is a dark skies area, and so there are two observatories here hosting stargazing events from time to time!

An obvious place to make a stop on your tour, particularly if you need some good coffee and much-desired flapjack.
