Staithes Harbour

Highlight • Historical Site

Staithes is a beautiful seaside village, home to Captain James Cook in the 18th century. Captain Cook arrived a 16 year old and apprentice to a grocer and chandler and left a budding adventurer. Hardly surprising given the beauty of the coast here in Yorkshire.

To the north of Staithes is Cowbar Nab, an imposing cliff, home to a seabird colony and great for walking up to get unrivalled views of Staithes.

There are plenty of cafes and pubs, plus a stretch of sandy beach and public toilets at Bank Top Car Park.

Staithes

Highlight • Settlement

Staithes is a picturesque, small coastal town, located in a bay surrounded by cliffs. The houses of the village are built on a slope, and the narrow streets wind up the steep coast. Picturesque the river meanders Staithes Beck meanders through the village until it flows into the bay in the North Sea. In short: Staithes is a town like in a picture book and definitely worth a visit.

Staithes Fishing Village

Highlight • Historical Site

As you wander through the winding streets of Staithes and down to the traditional bay, it really feels as though time has stood still for hundreds of years. Much more peaceful than its larger neighbours to the south, Whitby and Scarborough, it’s a picture-postcard fishing village that’s sure to capture your imagination. With spectacular cliff-top paths, a small yet glorious golden beach and rock pools, it’s a serene spot that’s well worth a visit.

After climbing the long and tedious hill up from Skinningrove, the view is very worthwhile. Stopping here to see Staith in the distance, the views of the coast and surrounding fields are well worth the ascent. To top it off, the descent is super fun and fast and takes you all the way to Staiths with no effort at all.

Cattersty Sands Beach

Highlight • Viewpoint

This is a great spot to catch your breath and take in the views of the coast. The beach is sandy and water clear. It is a beach that is quiet enough to relax.
