Milburn Village Green

Highlight • Settlement

Milburn is a charming, beautiful village with an old fashioned village green. It lies underneath Cross Fell, which is the highest peak in the Northern Pennines AONB. Nearby are also Great Dun Fell and Little Dun Fell. The village is a great location to start a hike on any of these peaks. There is no car park as such, but when speaking to the locals, they advocated parking on the village green or on the grass outside the small village school, as long as it is not in term time.

Quiet, quite flat roads between the Lake District to the West and the Pennines to the East with beautiful views of both.

If you’ve climbed up Great Dun Fell you’ll have seen these dilapidated cars. There’s something about them that makes me smile.

Long Marton Village

Highlight • Settlement

A lovely little village with a real smorgasbord of house types and styles. In keeping with the region, red sandstone is the mainstay, but there's also a thatched cottage and characterful farmhouses. The residents enjoy a superb view of Lakeland giant Blencathra.

The famous Carlisle to Settle railway passes through the village. The station closed in 1970, however the station building has been restored and is now available for holiday bookings.
