Ridgegate Reservoir

Highlight • Structure

Great place for an evening walk, plenty of car parking along the road. There is a 'small loop' around the reservoir, which can be extended by looping up to the Scout Hut or even further into Macclesfield Forest.

Bottoms Reservoir

Highlight • Lake

One of six reservoirs in the Longendale Chain, which supplies water to Greater Manchester. Scenic setting within the Peak District National Park.

Teggsnose Reservoir was built in 1871. It works in conjunction with Bottoms Reservoir to regulate the flow and maintain the current that powered the mills below. The overflow channel allows water to overflow into the lower reservoir rather than overtopping the dam.

Great please to stop. Bench faces Macclesfield Forest and the reservoirs, some great views.

Tegg's Nose Quarry

Highlight • Natural Monument

Tegg’s Nose Country Park is an old mining area and hill just east of Macclesfield. It incorporates Tegg’s Nose, a hill with a height of 1,250 feet (380 m), and is the highpoint of the local area with several good viewpoints. The hill was historically mined for millstone grit from the 16th to the mid-20th century. Now disused, there is still a fine collection of old quarrying equipment available on display within the park. It is used for a wide range of recreational activities, and there is a visitors' centre, car park, and toilets just off Buxton.

8.83 km

Tegg's Nose Country Park Visitor Centre provides parking (pay and display), The Nose Cafe for an after hike brew, facilities, bike racks, information about the area and picnic tables. It's the obvious place to begin an adventure to the 1,214-foot (370 m) top of Tegg's Nose. The views from the summit are splendid, with the Cheshire Plain and Macclesfield Forest both strutting their stuff.
