Aysgarth Middle Falls

Highlight • Natural Monument

English Romantic painter William Turner visited Aysgarth on July 28, 1816, when making illustrations for 'A General History of the County of York' by Thomas Dunham Whitaker. As you stand there to admire the magnificent falls, watching the water crash into the river below with an almighty thunder, just imagine Turner stood in the exact spot more than 200 years ago doing exactly the same thing.

Aysgarth Falls

Highlight • Natural Monument

The falls can get really busy with people mooching. Try and avoid weekends and holidays if this bothers you. Would recommend starting a walk away from the falls and adding them to the walk , then you can utilise the cafe

Aysgarth Upper Falls

Highlight • Waterfall

Aysgarth Falls is a spellbinding stretch of water in Lower Wensleydale that drops 98 feet (30 m). Best known for its triple flight of falls sculpted by the River Ure, the upper falls are usually the first ones you will encounter when visiting the area. Much photographed, painted and admired through the ages, they will certainly take your breath away.
