Storr Lochs Hydro-Electric Scheme

Highlight • Monument

The Storr Lochs Hydro-Electric Scheme, built between 1950 and 1952, was the first to supply Skye with electricity. It uses water from Lochs Leathan and Fada, which is channelled through pipes to the power station. The site features Skye’s only operational funicular railway, originally used for transporting materials and personnel. In 2017, the station underwent upgrades to modernise its turbines and control systems, ensuring efficient and sustainable energy production.
