The Porch House

Highlight • Settlement

The Porch House is the oldest inn in England (over 100 years). There are two parts to this pub; a formal restaurant and a cosy pub with low ceilings and a roaring fire in the winter. We have previously enjoyed lunch here. The portions are fantastic, they offer GF options and the food was delicious.

Stow-on-the-Wold Market Cross

Highlight • Monument

The market cross stands in the heart of Stow on the Wold's market square. It was constructed in medieval times as a reminder to traders to deal honestly and fairly.

Batsford Arboretum

Highlight • Rest Area

Batsford Arboretum is an oasis of green on the Cotswold scarp. With over 2,900 trees, a large collection of Japanese maples, pines and magnolias, and colourful flowers, the 55-acre arboretum and botanical garden transports you into a magical natural world.

Algernon Freeman-Mitford inherited the estate in 1886 after travelling in Asia. His journey inspired the Chinese and Japanese gardens where you can visit the national collection of Japanese Flowering Cherry.

The gardens, cafe and gift shop are open from 9am - 5pm Monday to Saturday and 10am - 5pm on Sundays. You can find more information, here: batsarb.co.uk.

St Edward's Well

Highlight • Monument

A Grade II Listed Building in Stow-on-the-Wold, Gloucestershire.

Probably early-mid C19 remodelling of possibly late mediaeval origin. About
10 x 18 ft with pool about 6 x 12 ft. Rectangular verge with paved edge, rectangular wall against bank with cast iron spout. Steps to left. There were 3 reliable water sources for Stow and this, the most reliable, was less used than the wells (the White and Red Pumps) on the Broadwell side which were closer to the town centre.
