Norfolk Songline Sculpture – Hawson Pattern

Highlight • Monument

The last of the Norfolk Songline Sculptures by Tom Perkins stands before the final stretch of the Peddars Way to the sea. Together with other similar sculptures along this national trail, it forms part of the songline art project, a venture that seeks to link the present-day experience of the Peddars Way with its past and the people and events that have shaped it.

Located on the northwest tip of Norfolk where The Wash flows into the North Sea, Holme Dunes nature reserve attracts thousands of migrating birds and diverse wildlife. Look out for avocet, barn owls, warblers and wheaters, as well as natterjack toads and dragonflies.

The reserve also has plenty of interesting historical sites. In 1998, a well-preserved Bronze Age timber circle which was dubber 'Seahenge' was uncovered here. Seahenge is now housed in the King's Lynn Museum. You will also see military remains from WWII such as the remnants of a target-railway.

Lovely village with a great village store (which is like a Tardis for Dr Who fans) , stocking absolutely everything including food, antiques, essentials and fresh produce. The Gin Trap pub is also excellent and gin refers to a sort of animal trap of which there are two hung above the door - not the drink but they serve that as well.

The Gin Trap Inn

Highlight • Pub

They've been serving "Farmers, Traders, Fishermen and Smugglers since 1668" and now cyclists.
Good Food but didn't sample any of the 100 plus gins since I was on the bike.

They also have rooms- so a good place to base am adventure
