Towering above the River Tay, Broughty Castle has been a prominent landmark in Dundee since its construction in the 15th century. The castle has witnessed many battles throughout history, such as the 16th-century War of the Rough Wooing and the War of the Three Kingdoms in the 17th century. During the Second World War, the castle was also used to defend the Scottish coast.

Today, the castle, which is a scheduled ancient monument, is run by Dundee city council as a museum.
