Already in the last quarter of the 12th century the construction of a Romanesque choir as well as that of the north tower began. In 1987, during archaeological excavations, the remains of a presumed previous building were found in this choir. The transept was completed between 1225 and 1240. The south tower started at that time was never further built to the originally intended height.
