Langenhennersdorf Waterfall

Highlight • Waterfall

If you climb the stairs to the right to the lip of the waterfall, you will see an upper entrance to the cave almost at the top. I didn't do this because I didn't have a headlamp with me.

Friedrichsthal Castle

Highlight • Castle

The castle emerged from an outwork mentioned in 1452, which was once called Dürrhof. At the beginning of the 18th century, a predecessor of the palace was built under Johann Ludwig Tüllmann. He enjoyed privileges from Augustus the Strong and used them to successfully expand the spa business in Berggiesshübel. After Mr. Tüllmann, Count Kaisersmark acquired the estate. He was succeeded by Count Pötting, who had today's palace built. His daughter married Baron August Friedrich Wilhelm von Leyser in 1822 and Friedrichsthal Castle came into his possession. In 1897 the councilor and manufacturer of kitchen furniture Carl Eschebach acquired Schloss Friedrichsthal. After his death in 1908, Count Alexander von Rex acquired Schloss Friedrichsthal. Under this, between 1908 and 1913, remodeling work took place to give it its current appearance. Two of the farm buildings were also built.
After 1945
Count Alexander von Rex was expropriated in 1945. He died after being deported in 1948. The castle and manor were plundered and then divided up. The LPG used the estate, and some estate buildings were demolished. The castle itself was rebuilt in 1949 into a spa and bed house.

post-reunification time
Since 1993, the castle has been used by a specialist clinic for psychosomatic disorders and was renovated from 1996 to 1997. The therapeutic center in the castle closed in mid-2005 and moved to a new building on the former estate. From then on, a leaseholder used the castle as a hotel for a few years.

Todays use
The castle is currently empty. The manor formerly belonged to the spa houses Sächsisches Haus, Meißner Haus, Johann-Georgen-Bad, Talfrieden and Im Wiesengrund.

Lower Bahre Valley Road

Highlight (Segment) • Cycleway

Very scenic, low-traffic route along the stretcher from Zehista to Friedrichswalde. Asphalt is great and the ascent is very easy to crank up. I like to ride here again and again to gain height in a relaxed manner and to continue via Ottendorf and Cotta in the direction of Saxon Switzerland on the left bank of the Elbe.
