St Maurice's Chapel (Moritzberg)

Highlight • Religious Site

On the summit of Moritzberg stands the mountain chapel dedicated to St. Maurice, built in 1419 and commissioned by Nuremberg patrician Herdegen Valzner. In addition, he had a brother house built, in which a hermit lived, who performed his prayers in the St. Mauritius chapel.

Moritzberg Mountain Inn

Highlight • Mountain Hut

The "Berggasthof Moritzberg" on the summit of Moritzberg is a quaint restaurant right next to the 600 year old Mauritius chapel and the Hindenburg tower, offering all kinds of Franconian delicacies, coffee and cake. The prices are fair, the portions are tidy and the service is brisk and nice. In summer you can enjoy your "Radlerhalbe" in the beautiful beer garden.

Promilleweg 1972

Highlight • Trail

For fit hikers there is still the Promilleweg 1972 from Schönberg. This climb is sometimes quite steep, but not too long. The Promilleweg takes its name from the Schönberg "churchgoers" who, after visiting the church and having a morning pint, made their way home in the evening.

The Moritzberg is 603 meters high and forms the gateway to Franconian Switzerland. It is also known as Röthenbacher and Nuremberg's local mountain. The mountain is a very popular destination for hikers and cyclists. Access with a car is via a private road and requires a permit for 10 euros from the municipality.

October 23, 2022,Kinderwagenwandern - Moritzberg & Klingender Wasserfall
Nice tour that is contradictory: if you want to see the waterfall, then it is better if it has rained before. However, this makes for muddy paths. Matching clothes and slightly sturdy shoes are recommended for the kids.

Not suitable for children's / handcarts. We would also advise against off-road vehicles. Krax or a sling are recommended.

We used the last nice day for now to visit the sounding waterfall. It was very idyllic.
It was nice that the restaurant up on the Moritzberg was also open during the week.
A nice tour!

Super relaxed hikers when it comes to dogs on the go 😊

Before the rainy season starts again tomorrow, I decided to go up another mountain today. From Schönberg, a district of Lauf, it goes to the Moritzberg, also known as the local mountain of Nuremberg. From the parking lot at the kindergarten in Gartenweg, it first goes through fields and meadows to the Klingender Wasserfall. Over the millennia, the Hüttenbach has …

Wonderful circular hike from the starting point at Schönberg to the “Nuremberg local mountain” Moritzberg.
The numerous families we met were mostly on the paved roads. Corona is currently preventing us from stopping at the mountain inn, but the "window sale" at least provided us with coffee and a Seidla beer, unfortunately in a plastic cup. The way back (Red …
