Schloss Möhren

Highlight • Castle

The magnificent, castle-like Möhren Castle dates back to the 12th century. The medieval masonry used to be a hunting lodge, but is now privately owned and inhabited by the owners themselves.

Would you like to spend the night in a real castle? Then be happy that there are unique holiday apartments to rent in the Möhren Castle. You can find more information here: schlossmoehren.de

The castle used to belong to the Count of Pappenheim, who also lived here. Unfortunately, you can no longer enter the castle area today, it is private property. If you are interested in churches, you should take a look at the church in Möhren. This is a baroque church with a free-standing church tower and used to be the palace church. After the Möhrener village church burned down due to a lightning strike, the count transferred his church to the Möhrenern.

Hello Rolf and everyone else and thanks for the pictures. I worked in small hydropower for 20 years and don't want to be a smartass. Above this barrier there is a weir that separates the stream and the canal to direct water to the power plant. The water is deliberately dammed up to a certain height in the canal, which increases efficiency. The water level was regulated with the very old wooden gate (barrier), but the necessary canal to the Möhrenbach unfortunately no longer exists. I can't say whether they operate the power plant, it was too cold for me to look at the facility.

After the thunderstorm there was a huge tree in the way that you couldn't get past or over. Therefore we had to use steep forest roads. Never used first and second gear so often and for such a long time. An unusual effort for us untrained lowland Tyroleans. Of course it was my fault that the tree was lying there.
