Krumme Hölle

Highlight • Lake

The term Biegener Hellen refers to a green strip up to one kilometer wide in which there are seven holes, some of which are filled with water, the Hellen. This terminal moraine area was created in the Ice Age. The warming ice sheet melted and created collecting basins and drainage channels. At that time, the entire depression was full of water, which flowed like a torrent towards the Warsaw-Berlin glacial valley.
The remaining lakes in the Frankfurt area are actually called hells. Only one in the Oder-Spree area is called Biegener Helle.
In total, only four of the seven bodies of water in the strip have a name. Not all of them always have water. In the Hohenwald area there is the Sheep Hell, the Crooked Hell and the Blank Hell.

Elk killed in Biegener Hellen near Frankfurt

Frankfurt (ND-Korr.). Hunting companion Heinrich Stürmer from Frankfurt (Oder) had rare luck shooting an elk. In Biegener Hellen, a landscape conservation area near the district capital, he shot a 260-kilogram elk. In 1983, two elk were killed in the Fürstenwalde district. They are considered game that can be hunted because they disrupt the ecological balance in the unfamiliar environment.
