Inn by the Lake

Highlight • Restaurant

A beautiful inn for a relaxing break with food and drink.

The following text from the website speaks for itself and requires no further explanation:

Dear Guests,
In 1990, we repurchased our parents' house, moved from Zarrentin to Neuenkirchen, and converted the house back into a guesthouse and inn between 1991 and 1992.

We have been welcoming guests under our roof for over 200 years.

On August 26, 2013, the house celebrated its 250th anniversary.

We consistently offer regional cuisine based on regional products.

Many of our dishes come from our own, organically managed vegetable and herb garden.

All dishes are freshly prepared; please be aware of the resulting waiting times in advance. The cake is, of course, also homemade.

From mid-October, we serve geese and ducks. Wild boar, venison, lamb, or rabbit roasts, please pre-order.

Neuenkirchen Village Church

Highlight • Religious Site

The somewhat hidden fieldstone church, with its half-timbered nave and adjoining bell tower, is, like the entire village of Neuenkirchen, an insider tip
for many a vacationer and has become known to a wider audience through the film "Hands Off Mississippi."
Lake Neuenkirchen, the proximity to Lake Schaalsee, and the many small hills invite cycling and hiking. The church, with its adjoining cemetery, rests on a hill overlooking the lake and was first mentioned in sources in 1194. Upon entering the church, you will be greeted by a modern stained glass window entitled "The Good News,"
which invites interpretation. The oldest part of the church is the choir, with two simple vaults and window arches in the transition from Romanesque to Gothic style.
A special eye-catcher is the mostly closed altarpiece with figures from the pre-Reformation period. The church is used especially in the summer months
for summer church services as well as for major feast days throughout the year.
In 2023, work was carried out to renovate the interior of the nave.
The church is open to the public. You can obtain a key after registering
at the Döbbersen parish office or on-site at the inn or from Ms. Lenzner
across from the church.

Neuhof Chapel

Highlight • Religious Site

The "chapel" is so large that it could easily be called a church.
But chapels, regardless of their structural size, are chapels and not churches if they don't have their own parish.
kathpedia.com/index.php?title=Kapelle

The 'Newe Hoff' was built in 1606 on the site of the village already mentioned in 1194 as a 'deserted place'. In 1624, there was a prayer room in Neuhof, which was renovated several times and finally converted into a chapel in the neo-Gothic style in 1859.

The three-bay hall building has a rectangular choir apse in the east and a polygonal bell tower at the northwest corner.

In the bell chamber of the tower hangs a chilled cast iron bell, cast in Apolda in 1955.

The western stepped portal is set in a wall projection with a stepped gable.
The coat of arms of the von Treuenfels family is emblazoned within a circular panel above a decorative frieze.

The chapel served as a burial place for the landowning von Treuenfels family; a crypt is located beneath the floor, and a corresponding gravesite for the church's patrons is located in the surrounding cemetery.

The patron's box, decorated with carvings, in the central bay of the church building could be entered through a separate door. The interior is in a neo-Gothic style, typical of the time of its construction. The altar, featuring a painting by court painter Gaston Lenthe (1805-1860), dates from 1859.
The pulpit is slightly raised on the south side of the chancel. An octagonal baptismal font is also part of the furnishings. The organ by Friedrich Ludwig Theodor Friese (Friese III) was installed in the chapel in 1860/61.

In front of the chapel, leaning against the tower, stands a larger-than-life statue of the Apostle Peter. It is unknown whether a corresponding statue of St. Paul existed on the opposite side, south of the chapel. The chapel is surrounded by a cemetery, and a small funeral hall stands on the southwest side. To the north, the churchyard is adjoined by the castle building of the former manor house, which now serves as a castle hotel.
