Kleinreh Mill

Highlight • Mountain Hut

Great stop for hikers. The smoked fish (also to take away) are a poem. There is also coffee, cake and snacks. As a Mühlenweg hiker you have to plan in advance!

Steinach Gorge

Highlight • Gorge

Nobody knows where the volcano erupted, bringing the white and greenish-gray quartz keratophyr into the Steinach Gorge. The special climate in the gorge, which is due to the rock, the natural river and the floodplain forests, makes it a suitable home for endangered fish and bird species. And who can not do anything with all this, will simply enjoy the aesthetics of the wild and romantic natural monument.

By the way, the shortest access directly to the gorge is possible from the Steinachtal south of Wildenstein.

⚙️ Saw Mill at the Hochofen

Highlight • Monument

At the beginning of the Steinach valley is the "cutting mill at the blast furnace". Since 1868 it has been used to cut beams or boards from so-called "blocks". "Blöcher" are unprocessed trunks that come from the densely wooded Franconian Forest. The small sawmill was built because a hurricane in the Franconian Forest cut down countless giant trees. In 1982, students and professors at the Düsseldorf University of Applied Sciences began to renovate the saw so that it is fully functional again today and is available for tours with its original equipment.

Marienweiher Pilgrimage Church

Highlight • Religious Site

In a document from 1189, Bishop Otto II (1177-1196) presented the Cistercian monastery in Langheim with its own church in Marienweiher. The donation was renewed in 1217.
A monastery and a hospice were built near the church. During the turmoil of the Hussite invasions (1419-1436), the church buildings in Marienweiher were plundered and destroyed. Marienweiher also felt the effects of the Thirty Years' War since the first Swedish invasion on June 6th, 1631. Looting and destruction took place until 1647 by troops from both denominations. The 18th century was a period of lively building activity for Marienweiher, culminating in the new construction of the baroque nave after 1718/19 and the tower (1743-1745); In 1777 a second expansion of the monastery took place. With the secularization (1802) came the civil occupation and dissolution of the monastery.
