Tarbeker Moor

Highlight • Natural

The Tarbeker Moor is the remnant of a larger bog complex that formed within a meltwater channel after the last ice age. The surrounding bogs were milled in the 19th and 20th centuries and almost entirely transferred to grassland. From 1951 to 1990, the Tarbeker Moor was partially digged down to the mineral underground. The peatwork led to the complete destruction of the raised bog vegetation.

In 1991 the restoration of the Tarbeker Moor (still profitable raised bog) was started. Due to the accumulation of water in the Tensfeld Au and the influx of spring water from the underground and from the slopes, vegetation of the transitional and rocking marshes has formed on the former mining areas.
Overall, a small-scale mosaic of moor-typical vegetation, water surfaces and dry peat dams has been created. The area is home to numerous amphibian species such as the garlic toad and the moor frog. The otter occurs in the area of the Tensfeld Au. Thanks to the successfully initiated renaturation, the Tarbeker Moor has developed into a diverse, species-rich bog complex and is particularly worthy of protection as the rest of an originally large-scale moor landscape. It is of national importance in terms of its diversity of species and habitats, its regeneration approaches and its large area. The overarching protection goal is the promotion of regenerative transitional bog vegetation and further development into a raised bog. To this end, it is particularly important to optimize the state of wetting in the bog and its surroundings. Furthermore, the suitability of the area as a walking corridor for the otter should be preserved.

Highlight (Segment) • Trail

perhaps not ideal for cycling, as there is usually too much going on near the playground and on the promenade to really let go
