Vienenburger Lake

Highlight • Lake

Here the north bank: The renaturation of a former gravel mining area resulted in this beautiful local recreation area on the outskirts of Vienenburg. A walking, hiking and cycling path with rest benches runs around the lake, from which branches also lead across the Oker into the Harly.
Once a year - usually in August - the Vienenburger Seefest takes place, but then the “party mile” is on the west bank.

Bündheim Castle

Highlight • Castle

Bündheim Castle is a former administrative building in the Bündheim district of the city of Bad Harzburg in Lower Saxony, which was built in 1685 to administer the Harzburg office. The building has been owned by the city since the 1970s and has mainly been used for events since then.
The first previous building of the palace was built under Duke Julius zu Braunschweig-Wolfenbüttel in 1573 as an official building, which was located near the ducal estate in Bündheim. It was intended for the bailiff of the Harzburg office, who until then had his seat on the gradually decaying Harzburg.
During the Thirty Years' War the office building was destroyed in 1626 by mercenaries of the army commander Wallenstein. After the war, Duke August rebuilt it from the remains of the old office building and the stones of the Harzburg in 1650. Due to construction defects, the office building was demolished and rebuilt in 1685. Today's two-storey building with an octagonal stair tower was created from rubble stones.
Until 1750 the office building was an administrative seat of the Brunswick dukes. In 1861 the building came to the Bündheimer Gestüt and a park and riding arena were created on the site.
In the 1970s, the city of Bad Harzburg acquired the building and restored it to give it a new use. The great hall, which is known as the knight's hall, has furnishings from the turn of the 19th to the 20th century. The hall was repaired in 1980 and has been used for cultural events, receptions and private celebrations ever since. Source: de.wikipedia.org/wiki/Schloss_B%C3%BCndheim
