Brietzer Teiche Information Board

Highlight • Rest Area

Today, the Brietz ponds are an Eldorado for waders and waterfowl, dragonflies and amphibians. The former "Ziegeleiteiche" west of Salzwedel, which were created by clay quarrying, have been redesigned to be more natural since the late 1990s. A valuable wetland biotope has emerged for migratory and breeding birds with excellent living conditions for meadow and reed breeders such as marsh harriers, snipes and water rails.

From the western lookout point, you have a unique view of the extraordinary diversity of the Brietz ponds. This valuable wetland habitat for migratory and breeding birds offers excellent living conditions for meadow and reedbed nesters such as marsh harriers, snipe, and water rails. White-tailed eagles, cranes, and black storks also find ample food here. In winter, northern geese and whooper swans use the waters as a roosting site. With a bit of luck, you might also spot otters and beavers, which have resettled in this area.

Today it was "hiking in the Nüscht" again 😉

Together with @Sunny Sun I. 🥾👑 we took Mom for a little walk 😅
Although the head of the family only lives 10km away, the stiff-hipped group didn't know the ponds and observation posts at all.

Task from mom: get asparagus 😉

Immediately used it for a short tour to the Brietzer Teiche, highly recommended, there is a lot to discover 😃

Now it's time to prepare for the MM tomorrow, best wishes and see you then! 🦊✌️
