Priwall–Travemünde Ferry

Highlight • Rest Area

The ferry from Travemünde to Priwall runs every 15 minutes during the day and costs 1.3 euros for you plus 90 cents for the bike (do not forget your change!). Even at night it runs once an hour, so it can start anytime. Checking in shortly beforehand will never hurt, maybe there will be some disruptions or changes to the timetable. You just do that here: sv-luebeck.de/de/fähren/fährzeiten-sommer.html

A busy place here on the Priwall. Many small boats and the large four-masted sailing ship. There's always something going on here.

The Passat is a four-masted steel barque, which was launched as one of the legendary Flying P-liners of the shipping company F. Laeisz in 1911 at Blohm & Voss and is now in the port of Travemünde.

She was first used as a cargo ship by F. Laeisz between Europe and South America. Owned by Gustaf Erikson, it served mainly for wheat transport between Australia and Europe (see wheat regatta). The then captain was Otto Piper. In the 1950s, she was used as a cargo sail training ship between Europe and South America's East Coast. Overall, she rounded 39 times the notorious because of its weather conditions Cape Horn (so-called Cape Hoornier). In 1957, the ship was decommissioned due to declining profitability.

Today, the Passat serves as a museum, accommodation, venue and breakwater. (Source: Wikipedia)
