La Viershöhe (HWN 72)

Highlight • Viewpoint

From here you have a fantastic view of the Bode Valley. The name of the hill is reminiscent of the head forester La Viers, who was the highest-ranking forestry official in the Prussian province of Saxony for the Harz forest areas in the 19th century. La Viers, possibly of Huguenot descent, often hunted in this area. In view of the onset of Harz tourism, he suggested the creation of hiking trails very early on and even before the Harz Club was founded.

Highlight • Climb

If you walk the circuit counterclockwise, the climb is nowhere near as difficult as going up the serpentines.

Maiden's Bridge over the Bode

Highlight • Bridge

The Jungfernbrücke is located in the Hirschgrund at the Gasthaus Königsruhe in the Bodetal directly below the vantage point on the Roßtrappe. This narrow, stone pedestrian bridge allows you to cross the raging mountain river and ends on the north side directly in the terrace and beer garden area. It represents one of the few opportunities in the lower Bodetal to get to the other bank of the river without getting your feet wet. West of the bridge, the valley narrows to a very narrow gorge.

The filigree construction of the Jungfernbrücke forms a strong contrast to the rough surroundings of rock and white water. According to legend, the structure could only be crossed by virgins, otherwise it would collapse. Because the bridge still exists today, there is probably little truth in this story.

A steep ascent to the Hexentanzplatz begins near the south side of the Jungfernbrücke, which ends in the area of the zoo. The arduous path with numerous switchbacks leads more than 250 meters up.

Sonnenklippe (HWN 69)

Highlight • Natural Monument

It is one of the most mystical and legendary places in the Bodetal. A beech tree clings to the rock and has been growing small and stocky for many years. The Bode shoots past the cliff far below. There is a bank, information boards and a stamp office for the Harzer hiking nobility.

You can easily reach the Sonnenklippe from Treseburg. A 15 to 20-minute walk without major differences in altitude will take you to this point on a consistently easy hiking trail. A few hundred meters from the sun cliff you can dig your feet into the ground on a small pebble beach. In Treseburg there is a large, chargeable car park. Several restaurants invite you to stop there.
