Legends and rumors about the lake:
There are many legends and riddles from days long past. On the one hand, this rumor about sunken treasures and gold persists. Locals from that time tell of large motorcades of the Wehrmacht, which drove up to the Alatsee to flee from the Allies. During World War II, Lake Alatsee was a restricted military area. On the other hand, there should be a narrow hole in the middle of the lake, where the lake widens again like an hourglass. Old legends report that the Alatsee is immeasurably deep and harbors a monster. Another legend tells of three enchanted women trying to lure men (knights) into the depths of the lake in order to be redeemed. Even today, it is said that on some nights voices are heard calling for help. Above the Alatsee there is said to be a force field that stretches in an energy path from the Alatsee to a triangular meadow.

Highlight • Lake

A small, beautiful lake in the middle of the forest. It's usually so quiet here that you can occasionally hear the fish snapping at flies.

Vils River

Highlight • River

The Vils, the second largest tributary of the Lech after the Wertach, rises in the Allgäu Alps in Tyrol. Its 36-kilometer path to its confluence with the Lech takes it through the Vils and Tannheimer valleys, then shortly before the border to Germany over the Vilsfall. But then it turns back to Tyrol and flows through the town of Vils. Shortly thereafter, the river flows into the Lech.

Weissensee (Allgäu)

Highlight • Lake

The Weißensee was created in the Ice Age by the Lech Glacier and has a length of about 2.4 kilometers, a mean width of about 600 meters and a depth of up to 25 meters. In summer, the lake invites with its blue-green water for swimming. In the district lake there is an attractive outdoor pool. The lake with the mountains in the background offers a wonderful backdrop.
