Essing — Village and Cliffs

Highlight • Settlement

Essing was first mentioned in a document in 976. Randeck Castle above the Essing market was built around the year 1000 and is one of the oldest castle complexes in Bavaria. The place, which became a market in 1336, later belonged to the Munich Rent Office and the Abensberg Regional Court of the Electorate of Bavaria. Essing (= Neuessing) had a market court with magistrate rights.

Good "summer tour", lots of forest. Not quite as much panorama, but really nice to walk because of the mostly soft forest paths.

Was a very nice way, but had difficulties finding the way at one point because of tree felling work. I think you can see where that was 😏

Nice and above all versatile tour. From idyllic riverside paths, mystical forests, adventurous climbs and butterfly-rich meadows to great panoramic views, everything is really there!

Back in March, I had already started Loop 26 on the Altmühltal Panorama Trail from Essing, but had to change my plans at short notice below the Schulerloch due to road closures.
Today, I tackled the hike again, and successfully.

Since my first 100km march is coming up next weekend, my feet were itching to go hiking, but I didn't want to overdo it and strengthen my strength.
The weather forecast for Munich and the surrounding area was very wet, so we decided on a varied tour through the Altmühltal.

We went for a hike today in beautiful weather. Fantastic.

The starting point was a small fine hiking car park near the Outer Celtic Wall. This path through the forest leads directly to the Danube. The historic ferry takes you to the other side. On the left hand the Danube, on the right the spectacularly towering rock face, we continue towards the monastery and Danube Gorge Weltenburg. There are a …
