View of Schleswig Across the Schlei

Highlight • Viewpoint

Especially worthwhile when the water is mirror-smooth and the silhouette is reflected on the water.

St. Andreas Church Haddeby

Highlight • Religious Site

In Haddeby stands the church of St. Andrew, built in the 12th century from raw rocks. The area around Haithabu, today Haddeby, is considered to be the starting point for the spread of the Christian faith in northern Europe, as Ansgar built his wooden church in the wider area of our present-day church and from there carried out his mission.

Haithabu Viking Museum

Highlight • Historical Site

Here, at the narrow point between the Schlei branch of the Baltic Sea and the North Sea, the important Viking sea trading center Haithabu flourished between the 8th and 11th centuries. The exhibition house impressively tells the story of this time with replicas and archaeological finds. Seven Viking houses were also reconstructed on the site, in which mediaeval life is shown very vividly.

The museum is currently open daily from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. (deviations are possible on public holidays) and the prices vary from 3 (children) to 9 euros (adults). In the Haithabu Café you can strengthen yourself afterwards and let the impressions have a lasting effect. The café is open Wednesday through Sunday from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m.

If this tree does not immediately catch the eye, it must be blessed with blindness. He stands right on the path and really has an extraordinary growth. The gap in his root system is so large that you can even crawl through it with some flexibility.

View of the Haddebyer Noor

Highlight • Lake

from Wikipedia: The Haddebyer Noor (Danish: Haddeby Nor) is today an inland lake in Schleswig-Holstein, near the city of Schleswig. The Noor is connected to the Schlei - an arm of the Baltic Sea - by two outlets in the north, and the Selker Noor adjoins it to the south. The area is around one square kilometer. With the construction of the Haddebyer Chaussee between Schleswig and Eckernförde, today's federal highway 76, the Noor was separated from the rest of the Schlei by a dam around 1882.

The Viking trading settlement of Haithabu once lay on the west bank of the Haddebyer Noor. In the 1970s, the remains of the port facility and a Viking ship were excavated in the Noor. A little north of the former Haithabu lies the small town of Haddeby, which gives the Noor its name and is home to the Haithabu Viking Museum.
The entire area of the Haddebyer Noor belongs to the municipality of Fahrdorf, whose district Loopstedt lies on the eastern bank. To the west, the municipality of Busdorf borders the bank, to the southwest, the municipality of Selk.

Artesian Spring on the Haithabu Trail

Highlight • Natural Monument

Small spring - the "water flow" is small but very interesting - it is located directly on the hiking trail.

Despite the noisy road in the background, this is a nice walk along the Schlei with a wide view over the inner Schlei.
