The castle of Montgrí (also called Torroella de Montgrí or Santa Caterina) is a military fortification in the municipality of Torroella de Montgrí (Baix Empordà) declared a cultural asset of national interest. [1] It was built between 1294 and 1301 by King Jaume II, at the top of the Montgrí massif in the municipality of Torroella de Montgrí, Baix Empordà. [2]

Hermitage of Saint Catherine

Highlight • Religious Site

The hermitage of Santa Caterina is a hermitage of moderate dimensions in the municipality of Torroella de Montgrí. The hermitage is hidden in the interior of the Santa Caterina valley, to the north of the mountains of Ullà, Montgrí and Montplà. There is a forest track that can be crossed from the road between Ullà and L'Escala. However, there are many paths and trails that lead there, either through the Coll de Santa Caterina, between the mountains of Ullà and Montgrí, or through the Coll d'en Garrigars, between Montgrí and Montplà. To the east, a path climbs along the valley channel until it passes the pass where you can reach the forest track that leads from the dunes of Torroella to Sobrestany. The building was started in a late Gothic style, although mixed with Baroque modifications.
