Building of the Old Town Hall of La Línea de la Concepción

Highlight • Historical Site

The building has housed the Mucipal Public Library, the Emeroteca, the Old Fund, the Study Rooms, and the Historical Archives for years, but the Museum of the Isthmus is no longer in the Command Building, although many visitors still visit it today, and it appears on Google as a museum

Fort Santa Barbara Ruins

Highlight • Historical Site

Fort Santa Barbara was the eastern fort of the Linea de Contravalación de Gibraltar (Line of Infamy), which stretched across the isthmus in the 18th century.

It was built in 1730 by the Spanish. The destruction of the fort and the entire line took place in 1810 by Spanish-English agreement. Both sides feared that Napoleon would take the fortified site and use the existing fortifications against both Spain and England.

The ruins were declared a national heritage site of Spain in 1994. From Levante Beach you can still clearly see the extent of the former Fort Santa Barbara.

Located in Parque Princesa Sofía, the artwork “Something to cheer us up has seen better days” by Jorge Caballero, inaugurated in December 2020, touchingly symbolizes hope and resilience in the midst of transience.
