The Hotel Karl is a good place for a rest. Friendly staff, the food was good and I was allowed to charge the battery. I can only recommend it!

Reconciliation Cross and Haidl Memorial Chapel on the Ahornberg

The village of Haidl am Ahornberg, located in the high valley of the Křemelna, was a court of Künischer free farmers from the 17th century. Before World War II, over 600 people lived here. There was electricity and telephone, hydroelectric power stations and forest fruit trading on the site. The deserted place was razed to the ground in 1952 for a military training area. Today the reconciliation cross and the memorial chapel remind of the disappeared village.

A small but fine church, rather inconspicuous from the outside, even if the large dome is of course very striking. From the inside then baroque, but not too overloaded. Unfortunately, you can only visit the church from the entrance, to protect the interior, a large lattice has been built in here.

"In the 1870s, the Pilsen - Eisenstein railway line was repaired in order to develop trade between Bohemia and Bavaria.

The mountain massif between Špičák and Brčálník had become the most technically difficult part. The builders saw fit to open up the massif with a tunnel, which, with its length of 1747 m, became the longest tunnel in the former Austro-Hungarian Empire. The tunnel was built in 1874-1877.

During the construction of the tunnel, many hard workers, called "barabs", came to the rescue. Life. They came from all over Austria-Hungary and Italy. But because the magistrate did not allow burial ceremonies in the main church and cemetery, a new cemetery of the "Barabs" was built not far from the railway line. Over time, it gradually disappeared and only in 2002 was a new monument with a large cross erected in its place.
