Ayagaures Dam

Highlight • Lake

On Gran Canaria, there are around 60 reservoirs. No wonder: It rains so rarely here that efforts are made to use every drop of water wisely. Aside from that, these lakes are simply beautiful. Mostly idyllically located, they offer you peaceful tranquility and a touch of refreshment. This also applies to the Ayagaures reservoir, which is worth a small detour.

Before taking the GC-503 down the valley to Maspalomas, you should check your brakes, they are essential.

View of Maspalomas

Highlight • Viewpoint

A stop here is worthwhile on the descent to enjoy the first-class view of Maspalomas. If you zoom in with your camera phone you can already see the lighthouse of Maspalomas (Faro de Maspalomas) and the silhouette of the Lopesan Hotel Meloneras.

March 19, 2025,Gran Canaria - Ayaguares
We rented e-MTBs from Free Motion. We highly recommend Free Motion. The drive to the reservoir is on regular roads. Kudos to the drivers, they're very considerate! Gran Canaria desperately needs rain, which is evident from the water level in the reservoir.

Even on a lazy end-of-year vacation, a tour is a must! Going to the mountains is always a dream! It's hard to believe that the mountains are only a stone's throw away! We could have soared to the beaches of Playa den Ingles and San Agostin today - today there was a sandstorm that blew sand into our eyes and …

First little tour to warm up. It is slightly hilly here on the island. 😂

Today's bike tour 🚲 led to the Ayagaures reservoir, where unfortunately there is not much water left.
At the very top there was a viewing platform from where you had a magnificent view of Ayagaures.
On the way back you could watch the dolphins 🐬🐬🐬 from Palmitos Park from above, who were already practicing for their next show.

After the very bumpy off-road tour on Tuesday, it should be much quieter today by popular request from a single lady and her husband 😀 We borrowed mountain bikes, but stayed on asphalt for almost the entire route. But the altitude and the temperatures played along properly 🥵 The route along the upper edge of the canyon is an absolute …
