Cambrón Gate

Highlight • Monument

The Puerta del Cambrón is a historic gate located in the western part of Toledo. Also known as the Puerta de los Judíos or the Puerta de Santa Leocadia, this gate has ancient origins, probably Visigothic. Its current name comes from the thorny bushes called "cambroneras" that grew around the gate.

The current structure is in the Renaissance style and was rebuilt in the second half of the 16th century. On the interior façade, there is a statue of Saint Leocadia attributed to Berruguete. It is the only gate in Toledo open to motorized traffic.

Built in the 10th century in the Arab domination, it was probably the only open space that existed in the inner wall in this Islamic period, which extended from the Alcázar down towards the Plaza de Zocodover, surrounding the city until ending again in the quarterdeck.

Toledo Alcázar

Highlight • Castle

The Álcazar, a symbolic building, is located in the highest area of the city of Toledo, having its most remote origins in Roman times. Located at a strategic point in the city, during the Visigothic period, Eurico conquered the city and Leovigildo established it as the capital, leaving modifications and adaptations to said building, initially considered and conceived as a great fortress. During the reigns of Alfonso VI and Alfonso X El Sabio, it was redone, giving rise to the first square-plan fortress with towers at the corners, and a three-section main façade. In the 16th century Carlos V and Felipe II ordered the erection of the Alcázar as such.

Toledo Cathedral

Highlight • Religious Site

Toledo is a city with more than 2,000 years of history. In its territory, Jews, Muslims and Christians have lived together, of which you can still find their traces while you walk the alleys of this surprising city. The cathedral or the two synagogues are a clear example of this.
