Hempstead Lake State Park

Highlight • Lake

Good size lake here with trails and paths and fields. Popular spot when the weather is good. I wouldn't really recommend the lake loop on a road bike, though: pavement is uneven and turns to dirt near the north end. Lake Drive is the most pleasant part. Bonus: this is a reliable spot to see nesting Great-horned Owls in early springtime.
