At the time of the Great Western Schism, Pope Urban VI moved the seat of the General Chapter of the Carthusian Order to Seiz. It remained there for almost two decades (1391–1410).
After a turbulent history, the monastery was one of the first to be dissolved by Emperor Joseph II in 1782 and the extensive properties at the time, including the Seizerhof and the Gonobitz estate, were incorporated into the religious fund. The Carthusian monastery itself was left to decay. It was not until 1826 that it was sold along with the Gonobitz estate to Weriand, Prince of Windisch-Grätz.
