Rotermann Salt Storage (Estonian Museum of Architecture)

Highlight • Monument

Estonian Architecture Museum

The Estonian Architecture Museum has a permanent collection of model buildings that provide an overview of 20th century architecture. To complete the exhibition, the museum has ordered new models and from time to time takes old ones out of storage - so the exhibition is constantly changing.

The museum is located in the premises of the over 100-year-old Rotermann salt warehouse, which is one of the most outstanding examples of industrial architecture in Tallinn. The museum pursues a variety of goals to offer something interesting for specialists, tourists and schoolchildren alike.

In addition, the museum also hosts many seasonal exhibitions.

Rotermann Quarter, Tallinn

Highlight • Settlement

"Rotermann Quarter puts people first and says that life should be enjoyed. From work to leisure, from social life to time spent with yourself. At all times. 24/7. Rotermann doesn't let life run away from you, but rather ensures that life doesn't escape you."

The architecture in this quarter is truly worth seeing. You can also shop there very cheaply and eat very well. I recommend it to anyone visiting Tallinn.

Russalka Memorial

Highlight • Monument

In 1902, the Rusalka Memorial was unveiled in the Reval district of Catharinenthal (now Kadriorg) to commemorate the sailors killed in the sinking of the Rusalka. It stands almost directly on the shore of the Baltic Sea. A promenade leads from the memorial directly to Catharinenthal Palace and its park.

The memorial depicts an angel standing on a granite pedestal, holding a gilded Orthodox cross in its outstretched right hand. It points to the presumed site of the ship's sinking. The sculpture is the first monumental work by the Estonian sculptor Amandus Adamson (1855–1929), who likely drew inspiration from the depiction of the Victory of Samothrace.
