Newport Bridge

Highlight • Bridge

Newport Bridge is a striking industrial feature spanning the River Tees. Opened in 1934, it was originally built from steel and concrete as a vertical lift bridge. Although it no longer lifts, it still carries traffic over the river. It was designed by the same company who created the Tyne Bridge in Newcastle and Sydney Harbour Bridge in Australia.

Watch out for the pot holes – there are quite a few.
