Lisburne Metal Mine Waterwheel

Highlight • Historical Site

Big old water wheel that used to service a local lead mine. there is a nice plaque telling you the history of the town and mine.

If your in the area, go visit the cafe opposite. Banging pastys.

The Tea Shed

Highlight • Cafe

This place is a gem. A bit of an oasis in a desert if you are on your bike and want a hot drink or to fill your water bottles. It is an honesty cafe in a house opposite Moduron Hafod Garage. Especially helpful if you are doing the Trans Cambrian Way in 3 days, just stay on the road at Ysbyty Ystwyth and drop down to Pont-rhyd-y-groes. You will have to climb back up to rejoin the route though (Hafodty road is most direct but steep!)

Miners Arms Hotel

Highlight • Rest Area

Great place to stop for food, drink and a bed for the night if you are riding the Trans Cambrian Way. Jan and Steve are really accommodating and there is a sandwich shop just down the road if you need something to keep you going through the next days riding. The best way to get back onto the route is along the main B road through the village as the climb is more gentle that way than the small back road, which is a better to warm your legs up.

There's not much more to say. An old telephone box, lovingly converted into a vegetable plot and a bank. Perfect to take a short break and enjoy the breakfast you brought with you. Between 2 pm and 9 pm the pub, to which all this belongs, is also open. If you should be on the road a little later...

Cors Caron National Nature Reserve is a vast area of wetland filling the broad valley of the River Teifi. It offers great gravel paths off the main road if you have the bike for it. Or lock your bike up and go for a walk along the boardwalks to look for wildlife.

Coffi a Bara

Highlight • Cafe

Coffi a Bara (translates to Coffee & Bread) is a very welcome stopping point. Owned and run by Chris & Amilee, it opened just a few months ago when the couple wanted to escape to a less frantic life away from the city. Chris is a self-taught baker, and the stopping point is a mix of bakery, patisserie and cafe with a great selection to choose from.

As you enter Tregaron, it can be easy to miss Coffi a Bara, which is located within the town car park. If you reach the centre, just turn around and its 40 metres on your right. Perfectly located and with a large courtyard area there is ample room for storing bikes. With the sun out it also makes for a good place to sit outside.

To refuel there are plenty of options, with some delicious baguettes, great coffee and some of the nicest pastries you will find, plus a few more slightly left-field options, like a Chocolate Cruffin and pastry hot dog. The bread is made fresh every day, but despite riding with a small frame bag, it wasn't quite big enough to fit a loaf inside, but I did manage to grab the very last pain au chocolat that remained.
