Nestled beneath the upland leading to Pendle Hill, Higham has connections with the infamous Witch Trials. One of the suspected witches, Alizon Device, confessed that Anne Whittle, who was known as Chattox, "was suspected of bewitching the drinke of John Moore of Higham gentleman" and caused the death of one of his sons.
The poisoning of the beverage was said to have taken place in the Four Alls Inn, which is still open to this day. The Four Alls in the name is denoted on a sign, stating that 'The King rules for all, The Priest prays for all, The Soldier fights for all and The Ordinary Man pays for all.'
