Dicke Berta Lighthouse

Highlight • Monument

The fat Berta is a beacon in Cuxhaven-Altenbruch. The standing on the Elbe estuary tower was under fire from 1897 to 1983 in operation.

A beautiful path directly along the Elbe: the mighty dyke on the left and the Elbe on the right. Ships that seem to come slowly pass surprisingly quickly. Migratory birds fly in large flocks over the Elbe. There is always a place to take a break. In summer, sheep graze here. They "live" here - the cyclists are just guests.

Dune Path in Duhnen

Highlight • Cycleway

Hi,

We had a great hike today in the Duhner Heide nature reserve in Cuxhaven. We explored the Duhner Heide, which is a protected area, and it was wonderful – well worth a visit, even in February 💝. A quick trip to the beach was a must, of course – always beautiful 😊. A fantastic cycling and hiking trail runs through the beautiful natural surroundings. Absolutely spectacular and highly recommended 👍🏻.

View of Neuwerk Island

Highlight • Viewpoint

After only 10 km of walking or covered wagon ride you are already in Hamburg - the island of Neuwerk belongs to Hamburg.

Duhnen Beach

Highlight • Beach

I cannot recommend a tour from Duhnen at this time of the year. From there you can continue along the coast to Sahlenburg, Spieka Neufeld and Dorum, but Duhnen is e.g. Currently overcrowded. In any case, I don't enjoy cycling there.

The Grimmershörnbucht with its crescent-shaped arch from the ferry port to the Kugelbake is perhaps the geographically most distinctive place in Cuxhaven. Beautiful.

The way back from Otterndorf only goes along the country road and a very bad cycle path 🤮

Wow, what fun.

We started at 15 degrees, 40 km/h wind, gusts of 50 km/h, and near high tide.

The cycle path behind the Kugel Barke was flooded to about waist height, we continued through sheep-populated dikes and then inland behind the dike.

Showing Translation

The way there is on the dyke, where you often have to get off to open the gates because of the sheep meadows. On the way back, the cycle path is often next to the country road.

Today our friend Werner took us on a Komoot tour and everything went wonderfully. From the Siemenshalle I took the rest to Duhnen via Alte Liebe, Kugelbake on the water and from Döse on the inner dike. Plenty of sun all day, only a lot of wind in the late afternoon.

We start the tour in Döse. First we looked at the old fishing port in Cuxhaven. The "Alte Liebe" is a must. Then we went via Döse, Dunen and Sahlenburg over forest and field paths to Otterndorf. The town is well worth seeing. Then we always headed back along the dike. The "Big Bertha" just before Cuxhaven was another highlight …

We start our bike tour in Döse today. First we drive to the old fishing port in Cuxhaven. The Alte Liebe is of course a must here. We drive via Döse, Duhnen and Sahlenburg towards Otterndorf. We really like the little town. On the way back from Otterndorf to Cuxhaven we cycle along the dyke. This part of the round …

Very nice, relaxed tour with an e-bike. Only about 6 km. Side roads with little traffic, otherwise mostly cycle paths.

Today on the way to the North Sea. From the campsite in Otterndorf it goes in front of the dike, between sheep and cows, towards Cuxhaven and through Cuxhaven. Of course there was a little stop at Alte Liebe to marvel at ships. This is also where the catamaran goes to Heligoland.
