Road bike-friendly section of the Bähnleradweg

Highlight (Segment) • Cycleway

Unfortunately, the otherwise very pretty Bähnleradweg is mostly gravelly and therefore not very inviting for racing bikes. This section is the exception, here rolling on very fine asphalt extremely pleasant. The origin of the way from an abandoned railway line is clear, even two bridges are still available and passable. Only at the very end you roll 250 m over fine gravel, but this is also very acceptable with very narrow tires.

Klausenbach Viaduct

Highlight • Bridge

One of the highlights on the Bähnle cycle path, an approximately 30 kilometer long route from Titisee-Neustadt via Lenzkirch to Bonndorf. In addition to the scenically interesting route, there are also always interesting contemporary witnesses of the disused railway line to see, for example train stations and bridges. The Klausenbach Viaduct, also known as the Löffelschmiede Viaduct, is one of my favorites. It is a very impressive iron lower chord bridge built in 1907.

Windgfällweiher

Highlight • Lake

The Windgfällweiher lies in a natural glacier basin and was originally a moorland. At the end of the 19th century, the lake was dammed by a dam and enlarged accordingly. You can walk all the way around the picturesque lake with its tree-lined shore on a comfortable hiking trail.

Windgfällweiher

Highlight • Lake

Although it is an artificial reservoir, the Windgfällweiher looks very natural and idyllic. But because he is right on the B500, he is on busy weekend days but very well visited, what the idyllic impression then rather detrimental. The best way to reach it is from Lenzkirch on the K4990, which brings a low traffic and with robust ramps up to the B500.

Between the Schluchsee (location: Aha) and the Windgälleweiher, you can also ride this cycle path with a racing bike, so you can be away from traffic for a few minutes.

Sure: Sometimes a Stromer or pedestrians or (bicycle) oncoming traffic brake; but if you are not on the cutting edge, to be recommended.

Surface (08/2021): Very good.

Schluchsee

Highlight • Lake

The Schluchsee can be reached by bike via several routes. The most beautiful is undoubtedly the one over the Äulemer height of Menzenschwand, but also the journey from Lenzkirch over the Windgfällweiher is recommended. The B500 on the northeastern shore is heavily used and provided with a partially attractive cycle path. The town of Schluchsee can be approached from Bonndorf or Lenzkirch. In summer, the lake is populated by numerous sailing boats and in total definitely worth a tour.

Highlight • Viewpoint

The view is awesome when the visibility is good and when you're at the top, it's nice to go down again. The place itself: well, yes.
