Jümme River

Highlight • River

It emerges from the Barßeler Tief at the point where the Dreyschloot branches off to the left to the Leda - as a side mouth from the currents. The Barßeler Tief arises 4.66 km upstream from the Soeste as a larger source river and hydrographically numbered 3881, the upper reaches of the Jümme. This unites there with the Nordlohe Low, today specifically combined with the Barßel Low to form the Nordlohe-Barßel Low. It arises at the confluence of the Nordloher Canal from the Godensholter Tief, with the floodplain from the Zwischenahner Meer combined to form the Aue-Godensholter Tief watercourse.

The stretch of the Jümme between the branch of the Dreyschloot and its junction with the Leda measures 18.33 km. After just two and a half kilometers, the Aper Tief flows from the right at Detern, and after eight kilometers below Stickhausen, the Nordgeorgsfehn Canal, which connects the river system with the Ems-Jade Canal, flows into it.

Thanks to the "citizens' initiative", the Osterhausen lock was renovated. The E-Fehn remains navigable 🚤🛥. 😊

Elisabethfehn Canal

Highlight (Segment) • River

The Elisabethfehn Canal connects the Ems with the Hunte from Oldenburg via the Leda. The canal is an inland waterway and there are a number of pleasure boats sailing along it. The bike path along the canal is wonderfully paved and straight. On Ascension Day, Germany's longest flea market takes place here, with around 2,000 tables set up along the canal.

Barßel Marina

Highlight • Structure

There is a good view of the Barßeler Hafen with its original mini lighthouse from a beautiful viewing platform. You can't set sail on the "Queen of Texas" riverboat, but you can eat hearty Texan food. For a digestive walk, I recommend a short, fine hike along the dyke to the Schnappburg (at the Soeste/Nordloher Tief/Barßeler Tief river triangle).

Back at the port you can take a trip on the MS Spitzhörn, round trips take place on Saturdays, Sundays and public holidays. The museum ship "Angela von Barßel" is also worth a visit.

Aper Tief Nature Reserve

Highlight • River

The Aper Tief is a small river in the Lower Saxon communities of Apen in the district of Ammerland and Detern in the community of Jümme in the district of Leer. It begins west of Apen at the confluence of the Große Süderbäke and the Große Norderbäke, runs roughly in an east-west direction and flows into the Jümme south of the municipality of Detern.

Bridge Over the Aper Tief

Highlight • Bridge

Between Detern and Apen we drive along the small river that leads us from the confluence with the Jümme to this nature reserve. If you change to the right, i.e. northern, waterfront shortly before Apen, you will also pass the Hengstford mill.
