The Leuscheider Heide lies on a quartzite ridge in the central Siegbergland on the border with North Rhine-Westphalia. Geology, altitude and the humid climate have created humid and acidic site conditions that allow rare types of biotope to occur. The vast majority of the area is covered by extensive forests, in which intermediate moors, bog heaths and forest meadows are embedded. Sources and brooks with spring forests, brooks with forests on the banks of the brook, the moors with Groß- and Kleinseggenriedern, the dwarf shrub heaths, the wet and wet meadows of the brook valleys as well as various natural deciduous forests make up the wealth of this area.
