Großwig Post Mill

Highlight • Monument

The post mill stands on a very old mill site. According to tradition, a mill built there in the 16th century was destroyed by a storm in the 17th century and then rebuilt.

The current mill building was built between 1845 and 1847, after the old mill was demolished.
This mill was operated commercially by the Hübner family for several generations.
Master miller Hermann Hübner and his wife Frieda Hübner operated the mill until around 1970. The grinding gears were finally powered by electricity.
To protect the mill, the twigs were removed at the end of the 1970s.
Frieda Hübner sold the mill farm in 1989.

To prevent the post mill from further deteriorating, the municipality of Dreiheide purchased the mill from the Lobisch family in 1999 and had it reconstructed. The post mill is still in working order and was reopened on May 26, 2000.
