The Sforza fortress is certainly the most important monument but the whole village of Soncino is worth a visit. prolocosoncino.it

A town of about 12,500 inhabitants in the province of Brescia, located between the Oglio and Mella rivers, the fortified village of Orzinuovi has been known since 1193. Today, among the things that remain from the military citadel built by the Venetian Republic centuries ago, there is above all the fortress of San Giorgio.

Very beautiful historical structure, destination every year of the "100 km and 10 castles", a splendid idea to revisit all these beauties by pedaling

Martinengo Castle

Highlight • Castle

It was built, albeit with a primordial aspect, at the end of 300 by Bartolomeo III, governor of Parma, Piacenza and Cremona. This beautiful building can be considered more a palace than a fortress, although with towers and a drawbridge it was built for residential purposes, later remodeled between 1450 and 1530. It is presumed however that it was built, as for most of the castles located especially in the plains, on previous fortifications inside the ancient "castrum". Residence of Marcantonio Martinengo (1546) who, in the service of Venice, distinguished himself in the battle of Lepanto, the scene of wars and family betrayals, as well as loves and incest at court, it passed ownership several times to the various descendants of the family until the second half of the 18th century, a period in which a Martinengo lived there for the last time.

Padernello Castle

Highlight • Castle

Padernello is a small fraction of the municipality of San Giacomo. A small and splendid rural village (castellodipadernello.it/it/). The Castle dates back to the end of the 14th century and was built by the Martinengo nobles (who also owned the Villachiara castle), a family of origin from the Bergamo area and linked to the Republic of Venice. Unfortunately, for years after the death of the last owner who resided there, it was abandoned, to be taken over by a foundation in the early 2000s.

@Po_1974 hello, I think we met in Farfengo today.
We were stopped at a fountain and you passed too fast to shoot your tires to stop. Maybe next time.

That's right, let's retrace the beautiful ride we did last year with the intention of setting a new record on the mercury scale.
We start early with 22 degrees. That's not good. We're fine but we're out of the game. Better this way! The route is fun, along the Oglio with single tracks and then dirt roads in the middle …
