Forges de Clabecq

As early as 1752 there was already a forge (forge) in Klabbeek, which was driven by a water mill on the Senette, which initially – being a double mill, also powered a grist mill.
The company grew and in 1819, when it was called Fonderie et platinerie de fer, it included numerous installations and even a small blast furnace. In 1829, after bankruptcy, the company got new owners. The Charleroi-Brussels Canal was also completed in 1832, allowing the company to grow considerably, and the later known Forges de Clabecq was in fact founded by Josse-Philippe-Edouard Goffin. However, it took until after 1850 before there was a real factory. A rolling mill was set up and a connection to the railway network was established. In December 1996 the company went bankrupt.
