La Porta dell'Acqua – Entrance to Parco Naturale Regionale del Fiume Sile

Highlight • Rest Area

It is the starting point of our journey, an equipped area located in Via Santa Brigida in Casacorba di Vedelago. From there it is possible to leave for the first of our destinations: the Fontanassi. Porta dell’acqua is also the name by which the entire resurgence area where the Sile is born is called, in other words the official entrance structure to the Sile Park territory. We are in the area of the springs and therefore within the historical sources of the river. It is precisely here that the ancient springs of the Sile are actually located, but after the major reclamation few of them remain, all tending to be further south.

a particular form of agricultural organization, a particular way of organizing the lawns. This way was realized starting from the eleventh century by the Benedictine monks and consists of a network of ditches that subdivide the land cultivated exclusively with stable grass, that is, lawn that is never plowed for cultivation. But what was special about this form of "cultivation"? It exploited the constant presence of water which, combined with the shading and therefore refreshing effect of the tall trees, placed on the perimeter of each particle, maintained a humid and constant microclimate, such as to guarantee a high number of cuttings, (even seven in one season). Unique wealth for those who lived exclusively on land. Unfortunately today only a few "holds" remain. Even if the water no longer flows in the ditches due to the lowering of the water table, the closed fields are still appreciated for the beauty of their carpet of grass, intense green even in winter.

Fontanasso dea Coa Longa

Highlight • River

The Fontanasso goddess Coa Longa is certainly one of the most significant survivors and one of the most accredited as a source of the Sile. The water of the spring springs, partly hidden by a dense intertwining of plants and brambles, makes its way through the marsh grass, soon forming a small, limpid moat.
