Brunnen Promenade on Lake Lucerne

Highlight • Viewpoint

Many roads converge in Brunnen, which is beautifully situated on Lake Lucerne, making it a good starting point, rest stop or destination for a tour of Central Switzerland.

Important and good to know for cyclists: The well-known Axenstrasse between Brunnen and Altdorf is currently being renovated and is therefore closed to bicycles. However, there is a free shuttle bus that runs between Brunnen and Sisikon. This means that the closed part of the road can still be included in a tour. You can find more information here: erlebnisregion-mythen.ch/de/erlebnisse/sommer/bike-velo/axenstrasse-velofahrverbot-brunnen-tellsplatte

With an incline of 110 percent, the new Stoosbahn has replaced the Gelmerbahn, which had 106 percent, as the steepest funicular railway. What's special are the barrel-shaped compartments, which always rotate during the ride so that the floor of the cabin remains in the horizontal plane.

Pragel Pass Steep Section

Highlight (Segment) • Mountain Pass

Watch out! Hardcore steep section of the Pragelpass west side! 660 vertical meters are covered over 5.5 km (12%), ramps up to 18%. Going uphill on a racing bike means 30 - 45 minutes of agony! You can actually walk there too ... However, if you have pushed Zoncolan, Kitzbüheler Horn, Kehlsteinhaus & Co. properly away, you don't need to be afraid here. ;-)

Pragel Pass

Highlight • Mountain Pass

The Pragel Pass is the small, hidden alternative to the Klausen Pass or a nice addition: Together with the Klausen Pass, it makes for a beautiful, but of course intense road bike tour with two challenging passes. The Pragel Pass takes you up to 1,550 meters. With its incredible view of the Muota Valley, it will definitely inspire you.

On weekends, the pass is closed to motorized traffic and is only available to cyclists.

Pass facts for the free pass:
Duration of the closure: 10 a.m. - 3 p.m. (closed sections change with the number of guests)
Highest point: 1,550 m
Start: Landsgemeindeplatz Glarus
Finish: Landsgemeindeplatz Glarus
Distance: 21 km, of which 21 km are closed
Elevation gain: 1,092, of which 1,092 are closed
Average gradient: 4.9%
