Sepp-Steinwender Hut

Highlight • Mountain Hut

The Sepp-Steinwender-Hütte is a service hut of the mountain rescue service and is about 100 meters away from the Wilhelm-Eichert-Hütte. It was built by the rescuers of the Ortsstelle Grünbach in voluntary work, serves as a depot for rescue equipment and is also the residence of the mountain rescue service. On 28.5.1995, the pretty, all-wooden hut was inaugurated.

It was named after the 1914-born master shoemaker Sepp Steinwender, who was for many years chief of operations and then head of the mountain rescue Ortsstelle Grünbach. He was an active mountain rescuer from the age of 16 until his 60th birthday. Steinwender was a very good climber. He was successful in two first ascents on the Hohe Wand, the Grünbacher Weg and the pulpit intersection, both of which have difficulty level VI.

The Wilhelm Eichert Hütte is one of the oldest and highest serviced refuges on the Hohe Wand. With its idyllic location on the "Große Kanzel" plateau, it is a popular meeting place for nature lovers, mountain hikers, tourers, via ferrata users and climbers.
