Rohrmoos Mountain Inn

Highlight • Mountain Hut

At 1,070 meters altitude is the Berggasthof Rohrmoos. So idyllic that the host advertises smoothly to renounce the Internet and mobile phone - here you can definitely enjoy the tranquility of the northern Alps in the Upper Allgäu.

There are ten simple but cozy rooms and regional cuisine to help you strengthen after the tour. Information about the inn can be found here: rohrmoos.de/zimmer

St. Anna Chapel, Rohrmoos

Highlight • Religious Site

The St. Anne Chapel in Rohrmoos was built in 1568 by Count Jakob von Waldburg and his wife. Since 1500, Rohrmoos and the entire valley have belonged to the counts, later princes, of Waldburg.

The chapel is still completely original, and the beautiful murals date from the year of its construction. In addition to the Last Judgment (above the entrance door, difficult to see), you can see figures of apostles and saints, stories of Saint Anne, and a winged altar. Above it is the large coat of arms of the Waldburg family.

Starting from the hamlet, the path climbs over a flower-rich meadow towards Toniskopfalpe. With the sun in the back you quickly gain height. On hot days, one is glad to reach the forest lying above.

Arrived in Lochbachtal, the climb becomes more pleasant. In onion moss there are very rare and protected flowers to discover. Wherever it gets particularly boggy, wooden planks lead over the biotope to be protected. Afterwards, the path below the Piesenkopf crosses the alpine meadows of the alp of the same name. Accompanied by countless cattle, it goes to the northeast flank of the head. Upwards the way becomes more and more promising.

December 26, 2025,🚶🏼‍♀️🚶🏻🚶🏼‍♂️🚶🏼: Weihnachtsausklang auf dem Piesenkopf 🏔️✨🎄🕯️💫
Christmas Eve 2025 with loved ones in glorious mountain weather!

Those present were @Joe, @Thomas Lacher, @T.Acki, and me.

We needed to balance the traditional Christmas feasting, so we balanced exercise with our calorie intake 😉

Unfortunately, there wasn't much snow yet, but we did have crisp, chilly sub-zero temperatures 🥶! So we were able to enjoy Boxing Day together …

It was due to the constant rain during the night that we looked for an alternative to the glide path, which is more dangerous in this weather. On the recommendation of a friend, we did this great tour, fantastic, quiet and with great views of the ever-present high Ifen and the surrounding hills and valleys. Only the long way over …

Planned spring tour with snow up to my hips

A relaxed afternoon tour to the Piesenkopf, which is only 1630 m high and should have been snow-free. True, but of course not on the north side, where I then struggled through waist-deep snow. Always true to the motto "I should have brought my skis," I first went through the moor, …
