Hofmannsthal-Schlössl

Highlight • Historical Site

The Hofmannsthal-Schlössl, formerly Maria-Theresien-Schlössl and Fuchsschlössl, is a small palace in the 23rd district of Vienna, Liesing, at Ketzergasse 471.

The magnificent building in Rodaun was built in 1774 for Prince Trautson in the Baroque style. The Austrian Empress Maria Theresia bought it a few years later and gave it to her confidant and chief steward, Countess Karoline von Fuchs-Mollard. For these reasons, the small castle was also known under the names Maria-Theresien-Schlössl and Fuchsschlössl. After the death of the countess, the property changed hands several times.

In 1901, the newly married Viennese writer Hugo von Hofmannsthal rented a room in the Schlössl. Hofmannsthal lived here until his death in 1929. His wife Gerty continued to live here until she had to flee to England in 1938 after Austria was annexed. The next resident was the National Socialist local poet Maria Grengg, who lived in the Schlössl from the early 1940s until her death in 1963.

In 1988 the Hofmannsthal-Schlössl was restored. It can be visited by prior arrangement.

Super delicious ice cream, beautiful view of the Perchtoldsdorfer tower in the middle of the market square. At the fountain you can also sit nice.

Always very nice to look at; Depending on the season, the weather, the time and the light, the castle and the church appear different.

Perchtoldsdorf is a beautiful and historic market town in Lower Austria, known for its wine production. It is located on the southern outskirts of Vienna and has about 15,000 inhabitants. Perchtoldsdorf has many attractions, such as the market square with the Martinskapelle, the parish church, the defense tower and the Holy Trinity Column, all of which date back to the Middle Ages. There is also the Föhrenberge Nature Park, which is a popular local recreation area with rare flora and fauna. Perchtoldsdorf is also a place with a lot of culture and tradition, such as the Heurigen, the Perchtoldsdorf Summer Games and the Perchtoldsdorf Guardians' Parade.

Bridge Over the Liesingbach

Highlight • Bridge

There are several bridges over the Liesingbach that connect different means of transport and districts. One of them is the bridge for tram line 60 on Kaiser-Franz-Josef-Straße in the Rodaun district in Vienna's 23rd district of Liesing. This bridge has the object number 531503 (Wiener Linien) and is located next to the Rodaun Bridge, which is intended for car traffic. Another bridge over the Liesingbach is the iron bridge near Kalksburg, which was formerly used by the local railway Vienna-Baden. This bridge collapsed during a flood in 1951 and was never rebuilt. If you want to do a bike tour along the Liesingbach, you can take a look at this route, which also leads over some bridges. I wish you a nice trip! 😊
