Pestalozzi

Highlight • Monument

Johann Heinrich Pestalozzi (born January 12, 1746 in Zurich, † February 17, 1827 in Brugg, Canton of Aargau) was a Swiss educator. In February 1827 he was brought to Brugg because of a serious illness, which should facilitate the medical care. Two days later he died there at the age of 81 years in the morning. He was buried at the old school building in Birr by the local pastor and the school teachers, because due to high snow, friends and relatives could not arrive in time or had not heard of Pestalozzi's death. [1] According to his wish, a white rose bush was planted on his grave. In 1846, on the occasion of his 100th birthday, the canton of Aargau erected a monument on the façade of the new school building.

Kasteln Castle is a castle in the municipality of Schinznach in the Swiss canton of Aargau. It is located west of the village on a rocky outcrop, surrounded by vineyards and forests. Today it serves as a school home for normally talented, behavior-sensitive students. The nearby castle Ruchenstein was demolished in 1643, when the Castle Kasteln was rebuilt into a castle.
