After a quarrel with the pastor in 1863, Mathilde de Caters had a church built next to the parish church. Her church was finished in 1871. She was destroyed in 1914 and was not restored.
In 1868 Mathilde founded a Franciscan convent with a girls' school. In 1926 the monastery and school were taken over by the Sisters of the Poor Child Jesus of Borsbeek and was given the name Sint-Raphaël and now belongs to the Brothers of Charity. Baron de Caters, cousin and heir of Mathilde de Caters, founded an airfield in 1909. In 1910 there was a flying week.
